General License Information

Construction Work Regulated

Commercial, residential, and public works construction projects that exceed the thresold limits require registration as a "major contractor". The limits are as follows:

  • Instructional Facilities - 150 Beds or Persons
  • Residential Use - 200-Room Single Structure Hotel or Motel, 100 Dwelling Unit Residential Single Structure
  • Storage Use - 1,000 Cars or 250,000 Square Feet For Parking Structures

Pre-qualification is also required in order to bid on Department or Transportation work.

Residential construction that meets the definition of home improvement requires registration as a home improvement contractor. Registration as a new home construction contractor is required for those engaging in new home construction.

Plumbing, electrical, well drilling, heating, piping, and cooling work is also regulated and requires a license.

An owner performing work on his or her own premesis is exempt from the licensing requirements.
